After months of attempts Jarred DuBois has finally been released of his National Letter of Intent by SMU.

"We have come to a mutual decision that it is best for JD that we find another place for him to further his career as a student-athlete," head coach Matt Doherty said in his blog.

DuBois and his family had previously been denied a release by the university and a NLI policy and review committee.

In an email DuBois father, Gary, stated that if Jarred was not released he would sit out for a season rather than come to SMU. Now, with a release obtained DuBois is free to play at any division one program in the country.

"Following weeks of uncertainty about J.D.'s future, we appreciate Coach Matt
Doherty's decision to grant the release and thus allowing Jarred an opportunity to pursue other scholarship offers," Gary DuBois said in an email.

In another email Gary DuBois apologized if any of the statements made in this "ordeal" were damaging to either Doherty or SMU's reputation as that was not his intent. It was only his intent for his son to get the best opportunity possible.

There was still no mention of why the release was not granted earlier, but was granted now.
