'One' week of change

Today marks the midpoint of the Diversity Action Team's "One" program, designed to allow students to make a lot of positive change in one week. By collaborating with various offices and student groups, the Diversity Action Team, a committee of Residence Life and Student Housing and the Student Activities and Multicultural Student Affairs office, filled the week with meaningful programming.
There are still five events scheduled for the "One" week. Food for Thought, an event that involves an educational meal that allows students to learn about and discuss global poverty and hunger, will take place today at the SMU service house at 5:22 p.m. On Thursday, students can attend the Women's Symposium from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the Hughes-Trigg Ballroom and a film about Darfur in the Service House at 7:30 p.m. Friday SPARC is sponsoring an awareness project at the Hughes-Trigg West Bridge from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Dr. Rick Halperin will speak about human rights in the Hughes-Trigg Theatre at 5:30 p.m.
Students who attend four or more events will be eligible to receive a Red Nano iPod, which benefits AIDS research. Everyone who attends four or more events can turn in a card which may be selected in the giveaway.
The Diversity Action Team aims to sponsor large-scale campus-wide programming each semester. Last semester the Diversity Action Team organized the Tunnel of Oppression, and decided that they wanted an entire week of programming.
