Ole Miss renames building for Turner

The University of Mississippi renamed a building on campus Friday after former chancellor and current SMU President R. Gerald Turner. It is now known as the R. Gerald Turner Hall.
The building houses the National Food Service Management Institute, one of six federally funded national centers established during Turner's 11-year tenure at Ole Miss. Turner was named chancellor in 1984 and stepped down in 1995 to take his current job at SMU.
"I am most grateful to Chancellor Robert Khayat and the IHL Board of Trustees for their gracious action in making this designation possible," Turner said in a statement. "Our family has great memories of our 11 years on campus."
The NFSMI is part of a national program that assists schools with food planning and nutrition.
Turner attended the ceremony Friday afternoon that featured members of the Ole Miss administration and the NFSMI.
"Dr. Turner served as chancellor for 11 years and provided energetic leadership for the university," Khayat said.
