A young SMU woman lies lifeless in the arms of a friend who carries her down a few parking lot garage stairs at 12:14 a.m. When they reach the freshmen dorm McElvaney, the friend attempts to stand her up, but she flops like a noodle to the ground. The SMU student senate passed a resolution Tuesday naming Peruna, the black Shetland pony, SMU's official mascot, ostensibly ending the controversy over the two new horses given to the university by philanthropist Madeleine Pickens. Senate Membership Chair Jack Benage and Senator Jake Torres, a Peruna handler, said they were concerned a potential change in the mascot was not brought before the students and the greater SMU community. Music and hope took over SMU's Hughes-Trigg Theater Tuesday night with "One Love," a philanthropy event hosted by Pi Beta Phi Sorority and The Hill. According to Mike Reading, group minister, The Hill is "a Christian community that together tries to be the solution to world issues instead of part of the problem. (0) comments
