SMU moved up one spot from 67 to 66 in the newest U.S. News & World Report rankings of colleges and universities. SMU is tied with Miami University in Oxford, Ohio; Purdue University;the University of Connecticut and the University of Iowa. Defense secretary Robert M. Gates has recommended an SMU alumnus to become the first four-star general in the history of the Air National Guard. Lt. General Craig R. McKinley, pending nomination by President Bush and confirmation by the Senate, would be promoted to Chief of the National Guard Bureau. (0) comments
