Rapes rose 333 percent in 2006

On the homepage of its Web site, SMU recently announced a national magazine ranked it as one of the nation's safest campuses. The ranking was based on crime statistics from 2004 and 2005. SMU did not mention what happened in 2006: Thirteen women reported being raped on campus, compared with three in 2005. (4) comments

1. Jan. 21, 2006: A female SMU student says she met a male SMU student at an off-campus fraternity party. The female student says that later, he took her to his dorm room and raped her. The alleged victim sought action through the office of the Dean of Student Life. (0) comments
