A call to action for students

It's time to start taking care of one another

As college students, we are more or less adults now and must understand that our actions (or lack thereof) have consequences. As tragic as the several recent deaths of SMU students are, what might be most shocking about the situations is the students appear to have died alone. (1) comment

Tri Delta is a veteran in the war against the sorority-girl stereotype in popular media. I was a junior at SMU in 1992 when Melanie Hutsell of "Saturday Night Life" introduced the world to my sorority. When she said "Delta Delta Delta, can I help ya, help ya, help ya?" our sisterhood's name was indelibly engraved into the public's consciousness. (1) comment

This is the fifth column I have written about the drug- and alcohol-related deaths of Jake Stiles, Jordan Crist and Meaghan Bosch. I have made it a point to mention their names as much as possible. In doing so, I believe it not only shows respect, but also reminds people that Jake, Jordan and Meaghan were real people - someone's children, siblings, friends and grandchildren. (0) comments
