Remembering the fallen

Members of the SMU community came together for a prayer service for those who were lost in Monday's Virginia Tech massacre. The service was to be held outside at the Flagpole but was moved inside due to inclement weather. (2) comments

Student Senate held a moment of silence for the victims and families of the Virginia Tech shooting and discussed campus safety yesterday in the second to last meeting of the semester. Senators discussed the need to increase awareness of safety procedures in addition to voicing their support of those affected by the Virginia Tech tragedy. (0) comments

The New York Times' Ralph Blumenthal returned to campus Tuesday morning, not to attend another closed faculty meeting, but to address Tony Pederson's media ethics class. Blumenthal is the southwest bureau chief for The Times in Houston. On Jan. 9, Blumenthal sneaked into a special meeting intended for faculty members only to voice their concerns regarding SMU's bid for the Bush Library. (0) comments

Reverend Michael Waters spoke to students Tuesday afternoon in Hughes-Trigg about the importance of maintaining integrity and ethics while being a leader. Pastor of the Greater Garth Chapel AME Church, Waters is also an SMU alum who said one of the key components of good and ethical leadership is to have integrity. (0) comments

An internship workshop to help SMU students take the first step to get into their chosen career fields was held at Hughes-Triggs Student Center Tuesday. Elke Hardt Arnold, a career counselor, explained what the internships are and how they can prepare students. (3) comments
