Global warming activist and founder of the Stop Global Warming Virtual March Laurie David and nine-time Grammy Award winner recording artist Sheryl Crow will kick off their Stop Global Warming College Tour at SMU on Monday. The Political Science Symposium hosted its annual debate Tuesday night in the Hughes-Trigg Theater. Glen Caroline, director of the Grassroots Division of the National Rifle Association, and Peter Hamm, communications director of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, faced off in a discussion about gun control in America. SMU has named James E. Quick as the Associate Vice President for Research and Dean of Graduate Studies. Quick replaces R. Hal Williams, who served in the position for three years before stepping down in 2006. Quick is currently the program coordinator of the Volcano Hazards Program at the United States Geological Society. (0) comments

Student Senate presented a check from an anonymous alumni group to SPARC at its meeting Tuesday afternoon. The check for SPARC, Students Promoting Awareness, Responsibility, and Citizenship, was written for $12,810. Assistant Director of Leadership Stella Mulberry explained that the alumni wanted to help SPARC with the community service projects they are sponsoring. (0) comments
