Bleeding hearts support drive

If you missed the big blue Carter Blood Care buses parked by the Flagpole this week, don't worry. Even though the APO-sponsored blood drive for this week is over, Carter Blood Care is always looking for donors. According to the organization's Web site, donors can give blood once every 56 days. The video game craze, which occupied the free time of young kids throughout the nineties, has continued for SMU graduate student Josh Szepietowski. His video game creation, "Invalid Tangram," earned him an award at the Independent Game Festival. Inspired by the well-known Sundance Film Festival, the Independent Game Festival was created in 1998 with the goal of recognizing the best independent video-game developers. (0) comments

Geoffrey Orsak, professor of Electrical Engineering and dean of the SMU School of Engineering, spoke about the importance of engineers and a new vision for engineering at SMU at Faculty Club luncheon yesterday. The Faculty Club, now in its third year, sets up the luncheon, which is a series that happens every other month. (0) comments

For the third year, the Betty Maynard Award and Scholarship will be awarded to a student showing excellence in the field of Women's Studies. The award was established in honor and memory of Betty Maynard, longtime SMU sociology professor. Maynard's work and activism left a lasting impact on the SMU community. (0) comments

The Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers hosted a "Meeting and Manners" event last night in the Umphrey Lee Ballroom to discuss the importance of etiquette and networking for college students and recent graduates over a formal dinner. Irene Zucker, president of the Dallas-Fort Worth chapter, emphasized the role of dining and proper manners in the business world. (0) comments

As a result of the job market becoming more and more competitive for college graduates, some students are facing increased pressures to get internships not only earlier in their college careers, but to even start looking earlier during the school year.
